Interpreters

If you have an important appointment at the doctor’s office, a governmental office, or the school and your german isn’t good enough yet, an interpreter can help you.

Some authorities and facilities have their own interpreters. While making an appointment, you can ask if you can get an interpreter for free from the authority.

If you have to hire an interpreter on your own, it will cost money. Here you can find help with your search:

Migrantinnen- und Migrantenbeirat der Stadt Bamberg (MIB) Migrant Advisory Board

The MIB mediates between foreign residents and the city administration (Stadtverwaltung). People from many countries care for important topics like childcare, school, clubs, labor market, freetime and culture. The goal is for all cultures, religions and nations to live together peacefully in Bamberg.

Written Translations

There are health mediators in Bamberg: The MiMi Project. They offer events for different topics in many different languages.

In Germany, Official documents (marriage or birth certificates) may only be translated by state-certified translators. (see Interpreter Portal above) You can get in contact with the translators and agree on a price. The prices differ a lot, so it is good to ask different people. Please make sure beforehand if you really need a certified translation of your documents. Sometimes the costs of the translation can be covered. It is important to ask the authority which requested the document beforehand if the costs will be taken care of!
