Hospitals

If you can’t reach any doctor but you have severe pain or fear for your life, you should go to a hospital. Your doctor can also write referrals for the hospital to do examinations or surgeries. Here you can find all nearby hospitals as well as information on what you need to bring to the hospital.

What do I need during a hospital stay?

  • Please bring these papers when you go to the hospital:
  • health insurance card

  • Identification card (ID card) and/or passport

  • Referall from your doctor (no need for a referall in case of an emergency)

  • A paper from the health insurance company, that you are exempted from co-payment. Otherwise you will have to pay part of the costs per day by yourself (All costs are covered for children. If you spend more than 2% of your gross income on medication, hospital treatment or any other services you can contact your health insurance company and apply for an exemption of the co-payment. Please keep and save all the invoices! If you receive money from the job center you can apply once you have spent more than 100 €. After that, you won’t have to pay for the costs for the year.)

  • Medical and doctor reports, results and X-rays.

  • Medication (if you take any).

  • For children: yellow booklet for U-examinations (U-Untersuchungen)

  • Clothes, nightwear, bathrobe, slippers, towels, toothbrush, toothpaste, shower gel, soap, shampoo (if you are staying overnight).
